We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Safety Representative to ensure compliance with MSHA and OSHA regulations for our quarries and asphalt plants. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mining safety, excellent communication skills and the ability to implement and manage effective safety programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designs, develops, implements, and oversee the organization's environmental health and safety programs and procedures to safeguard employees and surrounding communities and to ensure that facility is in compliance with regulations.
- Conducts studies and investigations to ensure compliance with government safety and health laws, standards and regulations and industrial hygiene as well as environmental safety.
- Investigates accidents and promotes safety-conscious work performance and training programs
- Determines root cause analyses
- Ensure all operations are compliant with MSHA & OSHA regulations and guidelines. Stay updated on changes in regulations and communicate relevant information to the team.
- Develop, implement, and conduct safety training programs for employees, including new hire orientation, ongoing training, and specialized safety topics related to aggregates operations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of work sites to identify hazards and ensure adherence to safety protocols. Prepare reports on findings and recommend corrective actions.
- Lead investigations into accidents and near-misses to identify root causes and develop strategies to prevent future incidents. Prepare detailed reports and maintain incident records.
- Foster a culture of safety within the organization by promoting safe work practices, encouraging employee participation in safety initiatives, and recognizing safe behaviors.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans. Conduct drills and ensure all employees are familiar with emergency procedures.
- Work closely with management, operations teams, and external agencies to enhance safety performance and achieve safety goals.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate safety records, incident reports, and training documentation. Prepare and submit required reports to MSHA and other regulatory agencies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Construction, Mining Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in safety management within the aggregates or mining industry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of MSHA & OSHA regulations and safety standards.
- Proven experience conducting safety training and inspections.
- Experience with OSHA guidelines with regards to asphalt plant operations.
- Certification in safety (e.g., CSP, CHST) is a plus.
- Ability to work in outdoor environments and conduct site inspections.
- Extensive travel required (up to 75% of working time)
